The first woman to graduate in medicine in her country, she was also a pioneer in the pedagogical field by giving more emphasis to the student's self-education than to the teacher's role as a source of knowledge. Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori (1870-1952) Engineer, Physician, Educator, Researcher, and Italian. She graduated in Engineering before deciding to dedicate herself to Medicine, which she studied between 1893 and 1896. She was one of the first women to graduate in this field in her country and was already working in the area in 1897. In this early stage of her career, Montessori dedicated herself to psychiatry and began working with children who had some kind of physical or cognitive disability. TEACHING METHOD She created teaching methods and didactic resources to aid the learning of these children and, after some time, began to consider extending her ideas to education in general. An important advance in her practice occurred in 1906, when she was invited to coordinate and direct the Casa dei Bambini institution. Over time, she realized that children preferred hands-on activities and devoted more attention to materials with which they could interact (assembling, fitting, and molding) than necessarily to toys. From then on, she modified the way classrooms were set up, replacing heavy chairs and furniture with lighter materials so that children could move them freely. Shelves designed for adults became low shelves to ensure access to all available resources. Montessori Method "Scientific Pedagogy" Montessori perceived a pattern in children's behavior: self-education and self-discipline were natural tendencies that emerged when the child had the autonomy to make their own choices. WHAT DID SHE DO FOR EDUCATION? In 1909, Montessori wrote and published her method, translated in Brazil as "Scientific Pedagogy". Montessori viewed childhood as a fundamental stage of discovery and development, and realized that in the education practiced at the time, children's needs were not met or even respected. Childhood had no voice. Therefore, she positioned herself as a defender of children in a world that was often hostile and unwilling to understand them. Maria Montessori died in the city of Noordwijk, in the Netherlands, on May 6, 1952. "Educating for Life" was her motto. Her legacy was entrusted to her son, Mario Montessori. To this day, Montessori schools continue to provide students with the appropriate stimuli so that they progress at their own pace and learn through interaction with their surrounding environment. The goal is for children to develop socially, motorically, and intellectually in a natural and intuitive way. People educate for competition, and that is the principle of any war. When we educate for cooperation and solidarity with one another, on that day we will be educating for peace. 🧸🪀Educational Materials Sensory Toy Set (autism, anxiety, stress relief) 👉 https://amzn.to/3h6hk43 Children's Table with 2 Educational Chairs for Children 👉 https://amzn.to/3hivsaD Small Multicolored Alphanumeric Mat 👉 https://amzn.to/3dtQB0r Wooden Educational Toy Syllables 48 Pieces 👉 https://amzn.to/2Spm9wV 📚We recommend these books for you: Daniel J.
