Utah Overland Adventure Series Finale
The final chapter of our Utah Overland Adventure Series begins near the west end of the San Rafael Swell. We wake to a cold, overcast morning perched on a ledge overlooking vast Utah wilderness, where the silence is broken only by the dogs playing around the camp site. It’s one of those moments that reminds us why we come out here in the first place — cold, remote, and absolutely beautiful. After breaking camp, we begin our journey toward the historic Copper Globe Mine. The trail takes us through a stunning canyon to some open lands where wild horses are grazing. At the mine site, we explore what remains of this Copper Globe Mine, including the massive woodpile left behind for smelting, peer into the southern vertical shaft, and wander among the remaining structures that tell the story of its rise and fall. Continuing along the canyon, we stumble upon one of the most breathtaking sights of the entire trip — the Copper Globe Sulfur Canyon Overlook. Towering 700-foot cliffs, vividly colored fins, and dramatic pinnacles stretch endlessly in every direction, creating one of the most awe-inspiring canyon views we’ve ever experienced. The adventure isn’t over yet. We carefully navigate the narrow, exposed rim drive before dropping into Kimball Draw, where the trail transforms into a deep canyon wash carved by time and water. Along the way, we’re treated to more wild horses and a herd of pronghorn moving across the open desert. We make our final push through Devil’s Canyon, eventually emerging near Interstate 70, closing out this unforgettable Utah journey with incredible terrain every mile of the way. This episode marks the end of our Utah Overland Adventure Series — but the memories, landscapes, and stories will stay with us forever.
