Vietnam War Helicopter Combat Footage | Flying with the 197th Helicopter Company (1965)
In 1965, ITN reported on the key tactical role which helicopters were playing in Vietnam by observing the 197th Helicopter Company during a typical day's action. Major Joseph Jaggers led the unit whose task was to reconnoitre and support South Vietnamese ground forces in trouble. The unit suffered significant losses from 1964 to 1965 with 9 dead, 71 injured, and 141 hits made on the helicopter fleet. They were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation in April for their bravery and, at the time of reporting, were the most highly decorated helicopter unit in the Vietnam War. #vietnamwar #vietnam #usarmy #helicopter #southvietnam #saigon #militaryhistory #combat To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: https://gettyimages.co.uk/search/2/fi...
