TronXY X5SA Linear Rail Gantry Upgrade
A while ago I upgraded the X-Axis of my X5SA from V-Slot wheels to linear rails. In this video we finish the job upgrading the Y-axis as well. With this upgrade we have completely eliminated the V-Slot wheels as well as replaced the gantry with faster, more rigid components. A lot of options are supported. Bowden and Direct Drive extruders, Volcano and Normal hot ends, Titan/MK3 and BMG extruder offsets (for the part fan). Instructions and things are available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:521... 00:00 Intro 00:32 V-Slot Wheels vs MGN12H Rails 02:59 Rail Installation 04:21 Motor Mounts 06:38 Pulley Blocks 11:09 Y-Carriage 14:57 X Carriage 19:19 Blower/BLTouch/Accelerometer 22:58 Cable Tower 24:14 CoreXY Cables 28:38 Final Thoughts Update 2: I've added a slimmer direct drive carriage - trimmed 10mm or so. I've also flipped the gantry around and put the motors on the front. Since the direct drive is larger on the front you lose less Y travel by also putting the motors on the front since they are larger than the pulley blocks. You'll need to swap X and Y steppers. Finally, I've uploaded a 40mm blower fan mount for a volcano. Will have a standard version up soon. Update 1: Someone in the comments asked how much x/y volume you have to give up with this mod. Assuming you're using direct drive with the left endstop you'll lose ~20mm of X travel and about 50mm of Y travel. Unfortunately moving the motors inside the frame takes up some space in the back. In theory the bed could move forward about 10mm to get some of that back but that would be complicated. If you're using the bowden carriage you're losing just a few mm on X and 40 or so mm on Y. Future designs will bring in the X a bit but I'd have to relocate the motors to get back Y space and I don't think I want to do that with this design. I also added more robust motor mounts.
