reflective practice when you're emotionally avoidant as a person (but you're also a psychologist) 🙋
Reflective practice is one of the core skills of practitioner psychologists. It helps us to understand ourselves and our clients better, and allows us to learn from our experiences so we can improve our practice. HOWEVER! If you're a little bit on the emotionally avoidant side (ahem hi!) reflective practice (the deeper, emotionally driven kind) can feel a bit hard to engage with. Through my years as an assistant clinical psychologist and now that I am doing the clinical psychology doctorate (DClinPsy), I have learnt ways to help me do this, which I will share with you in this video :) ABOUT ME Hello! My name is Miranda and I am a second year Trainee Clinical Psychologist. Every Sunday at 2pm I share videos on clinical psychology and mental health. These are sometimes serious, sometimes less serious, but always have the intention of making you smile! 0:00 Bit of dancing, bit of intro 1:25 Defining reflective practice 2:57 What emotional avoidance is for me 4:42 Models of reflective practice and why they don't work for me lol 6:28 Free form reflective practice 11:07 Using Psychological Models 16:25 Final thoughts
