On Friday, February 9, Jeffrey Boloten, Course Leader for the Art & Business Program at Sotheby's Institute, gave a talk on the functioning of auction houses at Garage auditorium. After an overview of contemporary art markets, Boloten spoke about the growing role of auction houses in price making and outlined new trends in their development, including their growing online presence and collaborations with luxury brands. The lecture was preceded by a cocktail reception at Garage Rooftop Pavilion accessible exclusively to the Museum’s Patrons, Partners and Garage cardholders, who also had an opportunity to discuss the exhibition Bidding for Glasnost: Sotheby’s 1988 Auction in Moscow, currently on at Garage, with its curator Vika Dushkina during special curator-led tours.
