Corpo Coletivo, 1970

A group of participants wear colorful mesh jumpsuits sewn together in specific areas and positions, limiting and impeding everyday gestures and seemingly simple and routine movements, such as walking, bending down, or sitting. The artist's original idea was to encourage the exchange of sensations and psychic experiences among group members. This exchange, as Lygia Clark herself said, was not always pleasant, as during the experience, people touch and even clash. In "Corpo Coletivo," the subject becomes the object -- and is treated as such by the other group members. The paradox proposed by the artist? Being prevented from feeling in order to regain awareness of one's feelings.
