Damp, Dust, Moulds and Health

Indoor dampness and dust accumulation are widely recognised as important environmental risk factors for respiratory and allergic health. Dust attracts mould spores and provides them nutrients, and moisture supports their growth. Excess moisture in buildings is either due to inadequate ventilation and/or penetrating damp. Epidemiological evidence indicates that living in damp or mould-contaminated environments increases the risk for symptoms such as cough, wheeze, nasal irritation, and throat irritation, and is linked with the development and exacerbation of asthma and allergic diseases. International health authorities, including the World Health Organization and the UK Health Security Agency, identify indoor dampness and mould as significant public health concerns and recommend moisture control, adequate ventilation, and building maintenance as key strategies to reduce exposure and associated health risks. This webinar discusses the impact of moulds on health, causes for indoor mould growth and how it can be prevented.
