Coulomb's law mathematically describes the electrostatic force two charged particles exert on each other. The force is equal to the Coulomb constant, multiplied by the two charges, divided by the distance between their centers squared. It is an inverse square law. Like charges repel and opposite charges attract. Contact forces such as tension and friction are fundamentally the result of electric forces between charged particles.
