Radio Shack TRS-80 MC-10 Micro Color Computer review

In the early '80s, the Timex Sinclair 1000 (a.k.a. ZX81) was popular due to its very low price, so Radio Shack designed the MC-10 to be better than the ZX81 in every way, including a usable keyboard, color graphics, and sound. Unfortunately, by the time the MC-10 reached store shelves in 1983, the ZX81 was obsolete, and "real" computers had been so drastically reduced in price that the MC-10 ended up costing the same as a Commodore VIC-20, TI 99/4A, or Atari 400. Thus the MC-10 never sold well and was quickly discontinued.
