The Industrial Revolution: The Birth of the Modern World
The years of the Industrial Revolution are not clearly defined, but the period spanned both the American and French Revolutions, the expansion of empires into the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and the opening of the American West. It began in the 1700s with a shift in one of humanity’s oldest necessities, the need to make cloth to protect their bodies from the elements. The textile industry was the first to be mechanized, to create modern manufacturing and shipping methods, even the first to adopt supply-side engineering, though it wasn’t yet called that.
