An Israeli soldier has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of contacting a foreign agent and delivering information liable to benefit Iran. According to the Israeli military, the mandatory-service soldier was approached through Telegram in 2025 and offered money for seemingly simple “photography tasks.” Investigators say he later sent an Iranian handler videos showing missile interceptions filmed at civilian locations during the June 2025 Israel-Iran war, receiving payment for one of them. Although the footage was not classified and was not recorded at military bases, prosecutors warned that the case exposed the growing threat posed by Iran’s online recruitment operations. The soldier was also fined, demoted to private and handed a suspended sentence.
