Pride Amsterdam 'Heroes' parade attracts thousands of supporters

(4 Aug 2018) PRIDE AMSTERDAM "HEROES" PARADE ATTRACTS THOUSANDS OF SUPPORTERS Tens of thousands of gay rights supporters gathered along Amsterdam's canals on Saturday (4 AUGUST) for the city's annual Pride Amsterdam event. The event features gay, lesbian and transgender people, many of them scantily-clad, dancing to music on elaborate boat-floats with onlookers cheering them on. The canal parade is the main attraction of the Pride Amsterdam. Hundreds of boats, each of them with a different theme, were sailing the canals watched by tens of thousands of people. This year's theme is called "Heroes", dedicated to all people who are standing for the human rights including rights of gay, lesbian and transgender people. Dutch people overwhelmingly support equal rights for gays, and the country became the world's first to allow gay marriages in April 2001.
