Artes marciais sob orientação de professor especializado em AUTISMO pode ser um BOM TRATAMENTO!
Prof. Dr. Erasmo Barbante Casella, Associate Professor, Neurology Department, FMUSP Dr. Edson Bor-Seng-Shu, Associate Professor, HCFMUSP Dr. Marcelo de Lima Oliveira, PhD, Neurology Department, HCFMUSP The main cause of autism spectrum disorder is genetic. Other associated causes include premature birth, neonatal anoxia, head trauma, meningitis, use of certain medications during pregnancy, parents over 50, among others. It is important to emphasize that there is no link between vaccines and autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a term used to encompass all types of autism, from mild to more severe. In the past, few diagnoses were made due to a lack of awareness among doctors and the general public about the condition. The incidence has increased due to improved professional knowledge and greater access to treatment (1 case per 36 inhabitants). Warning signs: when the child breastfeeds and doesn't look the mother in the eye, children who don't want to be held often, children aged one year and two months who don't clap or point, a habit of lining up toy cars and other objects, a fixation on spinning objects, stereotypical behaviors such as flapping, spinning around themselves or around the table, isolated fights, speech delays, and a lack of interest in nonverbal communication. The child may be hyper- or hypo-sensitive, but in general, they are hypersensitive, and many have an aversion to hugs or certain clothing. Many walk on tiptoe, which should be worked on to avoid Achilles tendon stiffness. Some hide under the table out of aversion to people. Tantrums are more frequent, but exaggerated and for any reason. Sleep disorders and migraines are more common in autistic children. About 32% of autistic children have intellectual disabilities. One-third of children who develop well by age three may experience regression. The main complication is ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), which can occur in 50% of children. It's important to note that older children may develop agitation, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and have ASD rather than ADHD, which can delay diagnosis and thus compromise the child's development. Some have obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and depression, and the incidence of suicide is 28% higher than in the general population. Many have problems with theory of mind, meaning they can only discuss topics that interest them. Many are extremely intelligent but have skills that won't be useful in life. Well-adapted schools can channel intelligence into professional skills. The most important thing is early diagnosis for stimulation with methods such as ABA. Early stimulation will minimize symptoms through brain plasticity. The classification is one, two, and three, that is, severe, moderate, and mild. The ICD classifies ASD with or without intellectual disability. However, it is difficult to classify children under 5 years of age. 80% of young adults live with their parents. Diagnosis is primarily clinical. Genetic testing may be requested, but it is not essential. Regular patient monitoring is important for diagnostic confirmation. Treatment requires medication to alleviate symptoms such as insomnia, depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. There is no specific cure for autism. The main treatment is applied behavior analysis (DENVER and ABA). A multidisciplinary team, including an occupational therapist, neuropsychologist, and speech therapist, provides activities such as martial arts to teach rules and discipline, dance, and others. Appropriate treatment can integrate mild ASD into society. Typically, children will be functional, but in isolated work with little contact with others. Cannabidiol has not yet shown satisfactory results for the treatment of ASD and is used for sporadic cases. Ideally, in education, regular schools should adapt to children with ASD and have therapeutic assistants to specifically care for the child. The school's vision is to try to group children together, as the tendency with ASD is to isolate themselves. Educating teachers to recognize and manage these children is important. There are some support groups, but few are effective for patients. Some educational videos are important for the general population and for parents of children with ASD, especially those who cannot afford therapy. Education in schools and businesses is also important for integrating children into the public sphere, especially for those who are unable to interact with the public. Many ASD patients may experience post-traumatic stress disorder at work. #autism #autismspectrumdisorder
