"Big Boy" 4014 | The USA 250th Steam Celebration on the Reading & Northern

The famous Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4014 steam locomotive surely needs no introduction. During its Coast to Coast Tour, the beloved Class II freight/tourist railroad, the Reading & Northern, hosted the mighty steam engine on its rails over four separate days. Joining the 4014 was the railroad's own ex Reading 2102, which pulled sold-out excursions along side. This video covers four dates: June 13th/14th, and July 1st/2nd - Covering unforgettable moments such as side by side running between both 4014 and 2102. Thank you so much for watching, and HAPPY 250th TO THE USA! - Video Outline - - Saturday 6/13 00:00 : Noise fills the air of Pittston PA as the two trains run side-by-side up the R&N's Lehigh Division mainline, southbound. 02:50 : The two trains approach. 2102 slips hard on the curve, staying ahead of 4014. 04:40 : UP 4014 rolls past on the inside track. 05:23 : 4014 coasts downgrade at a location known as "Tannery." 07:46 : 2102 sounds her 6 chime for Tannery Rd. Sunday 6/14 10:28 : Sunday 6/14 - The PIJT (Pittston to Jim Thorpe) excursion train is seen traveling southbound in Mountain Top, PA. 10:53 : 2102 thunders northbound towards Penobscot with 4014 not far behind. 11:50 : 4014 follows behind, en route to Penobscot where the two trains would race again. 13:10 : From Saturday, 2102 travelling southbound into Pittston with special SD40-2s 1983 and 1776, painted for the railroad's 40th anniversary, and USA's 250th anniversary respectively. Wednesday 7/1 14:30 : 2102 fights uphill at a location on the railroad known as "Seidel." 17:19 : Upon leaving Steamtown, 4014 is back on R&N rails once more and follows behind 2102. 20:57 : 4014 works through the S-curve south of Tannery. 23:30 : 2102 follows behind. Thursday 7/2 25:38 : Patriotic diesel locomotives 2026 & 1776 pull the Reading bound excursion train south through Hometown, PA. 26:25 : 4014 makes good speed through Hometown, following the diesels. 27:53 : The R&N train crosses the scenic "Hometown Trestle." 28:42 : 4014 steals the show as they cross the trestle behind. 30:00 : 2026 passes through a group of onlookers just north of Port Clinton, PA. 31:15 : 4014 on its way to Port Clinton for a 15 minute photo stop.
