The ZF Ecomat is the older type of two main type of automatic transmission offered by ZF Friedrichshafen for buses. Transmissions typically range from four to six speeds. The ZF Ecomat can be identified by the following distinctive features: 1. Howl/Catyell at shift from second to third gear (not present in the newer ZF EcoLife). 2. Neutral at Bus Stop for certain buses. Can be identified by a subtle change in engine pitch when bus is not moving and handbrake is not engaged. 3.
