How to Play Heat: Pedal to the Metal – Quick Rules in 5 Minutes 🏎️🔥

Shift gears and race for victory! 🏎️🔥 Welcome to Heat: Pedal to the Metal, the award-winning racing board game by Asger Harding Granerud and Daniel Skjold Pedersen, published by Days of Wonder. Manage your speed, handle corners, and master your engine to become the champion driver! 🎯 Heat is a hand management and racing strategy game for 1–6 players that plays in 45–60 minutes. Each turn you’ll choose cards to accelerate, brake, and manage the “heat” building in your car’s engine. Cross the finish line first to win — but only if you survive the corners! 1️⃣ Setup: Choose a track and place the board in the center. Each player takes a car, dashboard, and matching deck of gear and heat cards. Shuffle your deck and draw 7 cards into your hand. Set up weather and track conditions (optional for basic play). 2️⃣ Turn Sequence (Each Round): All players simultaneously: Choose a gear (1–4) → determines how many cards you play. Play cards face down, then reveal together. Move your car forward by the sum of speed values on played cards. After movement: Check for corners — if you exceed the posted speed, add Heat cards to your deck. Draw back up to 7 cards. 3️⃣ Heat Cards: Heat represents engine strain. You can remove it by shifting down gears, using special cards, or cooling on straights. Too much Heat can clog your hand with useless cards! 4️⃣ Slipstreaming: If you end your movement 1 or 2 spaces behind another car, move forward 1 extra space — no heat penalty! 5️⃣ End of Lap: After the set number of laps (usually 1 or 2), the first car to cross the finish line wins. Ties are broken by furthest progress on the track. 💡 Tips & Strategy Don’t always play your fastest cards — overheating slows you later. Use corners to cool your engine. Plan for slipstreaming — it’s free distance. Gear management is the key — timing shifts wins races. Heat: Pedal to the Metal captures the thrill of racing with smart hand management and fast-paced tension. Accessible, strategic, and wildly fun — perfect for fans of racing and board games alike! 🏁🔥 GameRules Studio helps you learn how to play the world’s best board games.
