Bikepacking the Shawnee National Forest – Day 1 – Cape Girardeau to LaRue-Pine Hills
Day one of a three-day backpacking trip through the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. We rode out of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and over the Mississippi River into Illinois. There was a good mix of gravel and paved roads as we winded our way through the Shawnee National Forest and Trail of Tears State Forest. We camped for the night at Pine Hills Campground and prepared for the long climbs ahead into the Larue Pine Hills the next day. Little Egypt did not disappoint!
