How to progress to a band 6 or band 7 level as a physiotherapist
Hey guys my name is Masud and in today’s video I talk about how you can progress up to a band 6/7 level as a physiotherapist. To answer your question, to be a band 6 and higher there are several ways but the most common is actually just acquiring the experience in terms of managing caseloads of patients. Band 6 usually are specialists in a particular area like MsK or neuro or another area of physio. And they have usually worked I’d say atleast 1 and half years as a band 5 before specialising. Band 7s are even more advanced and deal with a more complex caseload compared to band 6’s and probably manage a small team of physios in their department offering mentoring and development opportunities wherever possible as well as contributing to improving the service and quality of care in the hospital. There are other ways of building your experience and helping you to get higher banding in your workplace and another one is also doing a masters degree in your area of practice like MsK neuro or cardio resp etc. Usually when you are attempting to jump bandings you just have to apply for that particular role and at the time of interview you will probably be asked to show evidence of your clinical experience and portfolio as well as demonstrating knowledge by answering scenario based questions.
