I will be using the word bite plate throughout the video but it is the exact same thing as a bite plane. A bite plate is something that is often used by orthodontist to correct a deep bite, which is when your upper teeth overlap your lower teeth by more than ideal. To learn more about deep bites and other types of bites, check out my video discussing overjet vs overbite, linked above. A bite plate works by delivering a force to your lower front teeth that causes them to intrude and in doing so, making your deep bite less deep! Also, it works by “discluding” your back teeth which means to prevent them from touching. By doing this, it allows your back teeth to erupt more. When they erupt more, they tend to prop your bite open, making your deep bite less deep! The key to bite plates is that you have to wear them around the clock, including when you eat, drink and sleep. This constant force allows for them to work optimally.
