Water Protests | Calm restored in Ratanda after mayor's house was torched

Lesedi Local Municipality Mayor Mluleki Nkosi's house in Ratanda, Heidelberg, in Gauteng, was set on fire by angry protesters, following his address to community members on Friday. Nkosi had earlier appealed for calm, urging frustrated residents to refrain from barricading roads as negotiations with Rand Water continue. Weeks of dry taps in Heidelberg, southeast of Johannesburg, have sparked a major service delivery protest that has now entered its third day. Nkosi promised residents the municipality would deploy water tankers to affected communities that have endured three weeks without water.
