Why are Cocoa Prices Raising? The effects of too much money to a common Ugandan in Bundibugyo.
Bundibugyo is Uganda's biggest cocoa producer accounting for over 70% of all the cocoa exports. In Uganda, Cocoa is also produced in the districts of Mukono, Hoima, Masindi, Jinja, Kayunga, Buikwe and recently Kasese and Ntoroko. Uganda earns close to $150M annually from cocoa exports alone and Bundibugyo contributes close to $100M to this revenue. Ivory coast is leading producer of cocoa in the world, accounting for 40% of all the cocoa in the world market followed by Ghana which produces 15%. In this video, we delve into the recent increase in cocoa prices and it's effects on an average Ugandan especially in Bundibugyo district, a district that has overcome the disasters of Landslides, floods, ADF rebels, poverty, femine and recently COVID -19.
