In this gardening video, I show you practically how to do the pruning of the vine, one of the most important green works in the vineyard for an airy, healthy and balanced vineyard. We see specifically what the pruning of the vine is, where it starts, which prunings we break, which prunings we keep. It is important not to confuse pruning of the vine with the pruning of the vine or with the thinning of the leaves. Pruning means eliminating shoots that started incorrectly on the trunk, on the arms or in areas where we do not need growth. Pruning refers to the lateral shoots that appear on the main shoot, in the leaf area. The thinning of the leaves or the defoliation is done with great care, especially around the bunch, for light and ventilation, but without leaving the grapes completely exposed to the heat. In the practical demonstration you will see how we analyze a grapevine stump, how we identify the cluster area and how we decide which child is confusing and which child can stay. Children that crowd the stump too much, shade the grapes and hold moisture around the cluster can be eliminated for better ventilation of the vineyard. In contrast, children located higher on the shoot can have a useful role, because their leaves help to nourish the grapes and balance the vine. Pruning the vine should be done in moderation, depending on the vigor of the stump, the variety, the fruit load and the weather. If we break too much, we can weaken the stump or expose the grapes to strong sun. If we do not intervene at all, the vine can become dense, and it is more difficult for air and light to penetrate the cluster area.
