We aimed to catch large horse mackerel using ajing from a boat at Wakayama Kita Port in Wakayama City. Our fishing advisor was Major Craft's Tatsuki Hirose. We left the marina at 5 PM. The water depth at this fishing spot was around 20 meters. We started off with a bait-and-turn jig to target the large horse mackerel near the bottom. We caught a large 29cm horse mackerel on our first cast. We continued to catch horse mackerel around 25cm, and they were biting like crazy near the bottom. The horse mackerel gradually became more active, rising near the surface. From here, we switched to casting, which is quicker and easier to do. We basically sank a single jig to the middle layer and retrieved it. We also caught a horse mackerel over 30cm by casting, achieving our target of a 10cm-long horse mackerel. We thoroughly enjoyed boat ajing, targeting large, fatty horse mackerel using both a bait-and-turn jig and casting.
