Artist Interview Andi Fischer: Feil Good Gallery Baton, Seoul 4 March - 11 April 2026 Andi Fischer — “When you start to study medieval painting in Europe, you also find drawings or sketches of, like, not professional or not well-known painters. And then, somehow, you find out that the problems they had or the thoughts they had are equal to what we have right now. And for me, it was always nice to find this relation, that we kind of never change, somehow, and also, things become better or not. I mean, there is much more in the paintings. There is hierarchy, somehow, but sometimes there's none, and there's nature in it. We have to protect our nature, we have to take care of each other. So I like this tension between my figures and the nature, to break hierarchy sometimes.” Rooted in the tradition of Art Brut, Andi Fischer has developed a singular pictorial language that absorbs and transforms the intrinsic qualities of the animal world into complex, inventive form. The exhibition presents new paintings and bronze sculptures in which birds and serpents are mainly rendered with characteristic dynamism—works that appropriate classical references only to loosen and subvert their underlying structures, reopening the question of how traditional narrative relates to the possibilities of contemporary painting. 앤디 피셔 — “유럽의 중세 회화를 공부하다보면 화가가 아니거나 잘 알려지지 않은 이들의 드로잉이나 스케치를 함께 접하게 됩니다. 그러다 보면 그들이 겪었던 문제나 생각들이 오늘날 우리가 마주하는 것들과 크게 다르지 않다는 사실을 깨닫게 됩니다. 이런 연결성을 발견하는 건 늘 흥미롭습니다. 우리는 어떻게 보면 크게 변하지 않으면서도 어떤 것들은 나아지고 또 그렇지 않기도 하니까요. 그러니까 회화에는 훨씬 더 많은 것들이 담겨있다고 봅니다. 어떤 경우에는 분명한 위계가 존재하지만 때로는 그런 게 없고 자연만이 드러나기도 있기도 하죠. 우리는 자연을 보호해야 하고 서로를 돌봐야 합니다. 그래서 저는 작업 속. 인물과 자연 사이의 긴장 관계를 통해 때로는 위계를 해체하고자 시도합니다.” 아르 브뤼(Art Brut)에 뿌리를 두고 동물의 고유한 특징을 흡수·변주하여 복합적 형상의 독창적인 화풍을 구축해온 앤디 피셔는, 이번 전시를 통해 최근 관심을 가져온 새와 뱀이 역동적으로 묘사된 신작 페인팅과 브론즈 조각을 선 보였습니다. 고전적 레퍼런스를 차용하면서도 그 의미 구조를 느슨하게 해체하고 전복하는 그의 방식은, 전통적 서사와 현대 회화의 관계를 다시 묻게 합니다. © 2026 Gallery Baton.
