Unboxing the Lost Wardrobe of Chavenage | 120 Years of Textiles, Memory & Family History
Welcome back to Life At The Manor! In this episode of Life at the Manor, we explore the lost wardrobe of Beatrice Mary Savile Lowsley-Williams garments that span the Victorian and Edwardian eras, two World Wars, and generations of family life within the manor. From pristine leather gloves and children’s clothing to fabrics we could barely identify, each piece offers a rare glimpse into the daily lives, status, and personal history of those who lived here before us. We’re joined by a historic textiles expert who helps us date, understand, and properly preserve these remarkable finds explaining what they were worn for, why they were kept, and how best to care for them now. Alongside these civilian garments, we also reflect on the military uniforms made within the house, as Dad talks us through the significance of each one and his own service as a Tanky. Together, these textiles tell a wider story — of family, duty, continuity, and memory, all woven into cloth. Thank you for joining us on another journey into the history of the manor. We’ll see you next Sunday. Thanks for watching Life at the Manor!
