These interventions often risk irreparably altering the expressive qualities and even the formal perception of the original work. The topic of preservation raises numerous, very different issues: the legislative and regulatory framework; the role of superintendencies and other relevant bodies at the national and local levels; the assessment of the operational effectiveness of the various forms of restrictions and protection; The study of specific conservation intervention methods that preserve the expressive and formal values ​​of the work. All this takes place within the context of a challenging relationship between the disciplines of restoration and design, and in the current phase of progressive evanescence of copyright in architecture.
