Gajah Mada's Palapa Oath mentions its name. The Negarakertagama (Indonesian script) records it. But to this day, no archaeologist has managed to locate the actual location of the Dompo Kingdom's palace. On Sumbawa Island, an ancient kingdom nearly lost to memory in the Indonesian archipelago lurks—the Kingdom of Dompo and its neighbor, the Kingdom of Bima. Both were reportedly conquered by Majapahit in 1357 AD by Empu Nala, but their remains are far fewer than those of the great Javanese kingdoms. All that remains is a mound called Doro Bata—with bricks proven to date from the 13th century—and the ancient Bo Sangaji Kai manuscript, which preserves a royal genealogy that historians still debate to this day.
