A widely praised viral video shows a man, chest-deep in water, smashing a window to rescue children. It's Daniel and the students from his English academy, now devastated. Everything happened very quickly as they watched from the window of the Whitby Academy's facade as the water level rose relentlessly. And then, it collapsed. Daniel Burguet and the other teachers had the presence of mind to shelter their students in a side room, lift them onto tables, break down a door in the adjacent building, and pull them out one by one to prevent them from drowning. In the video, Daniel recounts this harrowing rescue in the town with the highest death toll from the storm. “I don't consider myself a hero. Today, while I was cleaning the academy, a father came in crying, saying he owed me his life, but no, he doesn't,” he says, still in shock after what happened.
