KETÈLBEY: "Sanctuary of the Heart"
Albert W. Ketèlbey (1875-1959) was a popular and successful English composer of light music during the early twentieth century. "Sanctuary of the Heart," subtitled "Meditation Religieuse," was published in 1924. After the initial statement of the verse, the music quotes the Kol Nidrei, a Jewish declaration that introduces the Yom Kippur service. Sung by mezzo-soprano Barbara Hollinshead, accompanied by Michael Hendron on a Kotykiewicz harmonium, built in Vienna, Austria c. 1900. Recorded in concert 1 May 2011 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (K Street) in Washington, D.C.
