Cord 812 Driving and Shifting
This car is on Bring a Trailer right now! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/193... Thank you to McQueen's Auto for this video. Be sure to check them out for a wide selection of classic car repair services in Shelby Montana! https://www.mcqueensauto.com/ What could I say about the Cord 810/812 that has not been said already before? That it is beautiful? That the supercharged 288 cubic inch V8 sounds lovely? It is one of the most talked about, and least successful cars from the prewar era. Despite its commercial failings though the Cord would spawn direct successors in the form of the Graham Hollywood and Hupmobile Skylark and replicas in the 50s or 60s... I can't remember and I'm not looking it up. It was a desperate product of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg universe, a car that probably contributed to the demise of its parent company in more ways than we appreciate. I love to watch this car run down the road and I love to watch the unusual shifter in action. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do! This car has a wonderful history. From the seller's description: "This 1937 Cord 812 is one of fewer than 50 Custom Berline limousines built during a single year of production and is among 12 produced with a deluxe central vanity and roll-up glass partition. The car spent time under the ownership of Auburn Cord Dusenberg Company president Doug Pray before being purchased in 2016 by its current owner, who commissioned a refurbishment that was performed between 2016 and 2019. After winning an award at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in 2019, the car spent time on display at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana, as part of the If These Cars Could Talk program. Riding on a 132” wheelbase, the car is finished in white and is powered by a 288ci Lycoming V8 that features a Schwitzer-Cummins centrifugal supercharger and drives the front wheels via a vacuum-operated four-speed preselector transaxle. Additional features include external exhaust pipes, independent front suspension, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, manually operated pop-up headlights, amber-lens fog lights, tan leather upholstery, and a radio. This Cord 812 Custom Berline is now offered on dealer consignment in Lewes, Delaware, with ACD Club certification documents, invoices from the 2016-2019 refurbishment, and an Oklahoma title." "The Cord 810 was introduced in late 1935 for the 1936 model year with styling penned by Gordon Buehrig that featured a “coffin-nose” front profile with a louvered wraparound grille, a rear-hinged hood, hideaway headlights raised via dash-mounted hand cranks, concealed door hinges, and a split windshield. The model returned for 1937 as the 812 with a lineup that included two new Custom body styles riding on a 132” wheelbase in lieu of the standard 125” wheelbase along with 2” of additional height and eight grille slats instead of seven. Available in both naturally aspirated and supercharged forms, the Custom Berline could also be equipped with a deluxe central divider."
