I encountered the majestic Hokkaido brown bears at Bear Mountain, a brown bear version of a safari park. A 300kg bear is apparently a normal size in the brown bear world…!? And there was even a male weighing over 400kg…! If I were to encounter a brown bear like that in the mountains… I don't even want to think about it. However, for me, who often hikes in the mountains where no one else is around, it's very important to learn about the brown bear's ecology without turning away from the fear. By the time I left, I even had a "favorite bear" (lol). And I also enjoyed some Shintoku soba noodles – a real treat! Please take a look!
