Паровоз ФД: как в СССР создали свой самый МОЩНЫЙ паровоз, который спас советскую Индустриализацию

In the early 1930s, the young Soviet republic found itself on the brink of a major catastrophe. Industrialization required millions of tons of coal, ore, and metal, but the country's transportation system was literally choking under the weight of its own plans. Old locomotives from the pre-revolutionary era couldn't handle the load, and the railways had become gigantic "cargo cemeteries." In this documentary, we tell the story of the creation of the legendary FD (Felix Dzerzhinsky) steam locomotive—a steel colossus that became a symbol of technological breakthrough and labor heroism. You will learn about the secret mission of Soviet engineers to the United States, where they studied the experience of "heavy" design, and how the designs for the future flagship were created in closed design bureaus under the supervision of the OGPU. It was an incredible race against time: the project was developed in just 100 working days, and the first prototype was assembled in Luhansk in a record 170 days. We'll examine the unique anatomy of the "steel giant": its 1-5-1 axle arrangement, revolutionary beam frame, and mechanical coal feeder (stoker), which forever freed stokers from the drudgery of manual labor. The FD steam locomotive didn't just haul freight—it changed the face of the country. Due to its monstrous weight, the Soviet Union was forced to completely modernize its track infrastructure: replacing thousands of kilometers of rails, strengthening bridges, and rebuilding depots. We'll recall the records of Pyotr Krivonos, who proved that "Iron Felix" was a high-speed dreadnought, capable of speeding along main lines at the speed of an express train. You'll see how the FD became the backbone of the war effort in the deep rear during the Great Patriotic War and how its remarkable fate unfolded after 1956, when the era of steam in the USSR came to an end. Our story will conclude in the Far East and China, where over a thousand Soviet giants have received a second life, becoming "Steel Ambassadors" of Soviet engineering. This is a story about the courage of designers, the talent of engineers, and the power of the machines that forged victory and built the future. In this episode: Why was the FD steam locomotive called an "American" with a Soviet character? How did the Stoker save the locomotive profession? The IS passenger "twin": the fastest in Europe. Why were they afraid to deploy the FD on front-line lines? The second life of "Iron Felix" in China and North Korea. 00:00 - The Transport Crisis of the First Five-Year Plan 04:11 - The Secret Mission of Engineers to the USA 07:58 - The Creation of the Central Design Bureau 12:03 - Designing a Giant in One Hundred Days 16:10 - Why the Steam Locomotive Was Named After Dzerzhinsky 20:15 - The Labor Feat of Workers in Lugansk 24:15 - The Unique Anatomy of a Steel Hero 28:03 - Revolution: The Introduction of the Mechanical Fireman 35:40 - Infrastructure Shock and Track Reconstruction 39:31 - Speed Records of Engineer Krivonos 43:08 - A Passenger Twin: The Powerful IS Steam Locomotive 47:10 - The Heroism of Railroad Workers During the War 51:07 - Rebuilding Highways After the Great Victory 57:57 - The Twilight of the Great Steam Era in the USSR 01:01:48 - The Second Life of the FD in China
