Cash Flow for Therapists: Booked Solid and Still Broke? | Emily Bowie
Cash flow for therapists is the piece almost none of us learned in grad school. You can be fully booked, watch good revenue come in month after month, and still find almost nothing left in the bank. If that gap has ever made you feel like you are doing something wrong, you are not, and this conversation explains why. In this episode, I sit down with Emily Bowie, a CPA and cash flow strategist who works specifically with helping professionals like us. I start with my own confession. At its high water mark, my group practice brought in around four million dollars a year in billables, and I still could not read a financial statement. Emily walks us through why net income is not the same as what is actually in your account, what a single session really costs to deliver, the four different financial professionals every practice owner needs and how they differ, and how to raise your rates without feeling greedy about it. We also get into the part I care about most. Financial health is not a betrayal of why we got into this work. It is part of ethical practice. When you are steady, you can say no when no is the right clinical call, instead of holding onto a client because you need the session to make your month.
