Shut Down Kicks Using JKD | Jeet Kune Do Foundations 2

Grab my FREE "Ultimate JKD Kickboxing Starter Kit" here: https://austinimpactjkd.com/ultimate-... Welcome to Week 2 of my 6-week Jeet Kune Do group class! In this lesson, we build on the foundation from Week 1 and explore one of the biggest questions students have about Bruce Lee's longer stance: How do you defend kicks? CHAPTERS: 0:00 - Introduction 0:59 - "Rule of Movement" Shadowboxing Drill 2:13 - Entry Punch Review (adding the Cross) 4:11 - Taking Away Your Opponent's Kick Using Foot Positioning 4:54 - Evading Round Kicks Using The "Pike" 6:38 - Develop A Fast "Pike" with This Drill 7:48 - Adding A Counter After The "Pike" Defense 9:15 - Intercepting The Round Kick with A "Cut Kick" 11:59 - Sparring Rounds We'll cover three different timings used in Jeet Kune Do: • Leading (initiating the attack) • Following (countering after the attack) • Intercepting (attacking into the opponent's attack) These timing concepts are at the heart of Jeet Kune Do and completely change the way you think about kick defense. Rather than relying only on traditional blocks, you'll see how footwork, positioning, rhythm, and interception can make kicks much easier to deal with. In this class you'll learn: • The Rule of Movement review • Why foot position matters against kicks • The Pike defense • Countering with the cross • Bruce Lee's cut kick • The three timings of Jeet Kune Do • Sparring rounds to apply the concepts Whether you train Muay Thai, boxing, MMA, or Jeet Kune Do, I hope this gives you a few ideas to experiment with in your own training. I teach private Jeet Kune Do lessons in Austin, Texas for students who want to dive deeper into Bruce Lee's approach to movement, timing, striking, and self-development through martial arts.
