TREND ALERT ‼️ Tight BRAIDS Scalp Damage & Pain

Have you had a terrible experience with tight braids? What did you do to relieve the pain, discomfort and overall stress on your scalp? Braids that are too tight can cause significant damage to the scalp and hair follicles, potentially leading to temporary or even permanent hair loss. This condition is known as traction alopecia.  How tight braids cause damage: Inflammation and Bumps:Tight braids put excessive tension on the hair follicles, causing inflammation known as folliculitis. This can manifest as red bumps, pustules, or even scabs on the scalp.  Traction Alopecia:If the tension is prolonged and severe, it can lead to traction alopecia, where the hair follicles are damaged, and hair loss occurs. The hairline, especially around the forehead and temples, is often the most affected area.  Hair Thinning and Loss:Traction alopecia can result in hair thinning or even bald patches in areas where the braids are tight.  Pain and Discomfort:A very tight braid can cause immediate pain, tenderness, and headaches. Even if the pain isn't immediate, it can develop a few days later.  Hair Breakage:Tight braids can cause breakage of the hair shaft, leading to increased shedding and potentially making hair appear thinner.  Scalp Damage:Repeatedly wearing tight braids can weaken hair follicles, making them more susceptible to damage from future styles or even normal hair care practices.  Signs of Tight Braids: Pain and Tenderness:Scalp pain or tenderness that persists after the braids are installed is a clear sign of excessive tension.  Redness and Bumps:Redness around the braid base, or the appearance of small bumps (follicular pustules) indicate inflammation.  Visible Hair Bulbs:If you can see the hair bulbs (the root of the hair) attached to the braid, it means the hair has been pulled out.  Shiny, Stretched Scalp:A scalp that looks stretched and shiny indicates excessive tension.  Headaches:Headaches, especially when the scalp is touched or moved, can be a sign of braids being too tight.  Please be sure to share your experiences and thoughts in the comments below.
