The Graffiti Throwie Debate: Are You Toy for Keeping the Same One?

Graffiti is has always undergone changes as time passed, and now, we're beginning to see yet another change in the graffiti community. What used to be common practice is now being seen as a toy, amature quality. Normally, as a writer, you'd develop a throw up (throwie), and as you became more known, that throiwe would become a bit of an icon, something noticed at a glance. This served the purpose of throwies, because they we're always meant as a tool to get your name out there large, and quick. Speed, and getting up was the name of the game and having your throwie be refined and recognizable at a glance was the goal. However, as social media took the focus off the streets and into the digital age, people began using throwies differently. Instead of being used to get up, they're being used to design and impress people, treated more casually, and with less of a focus on utility. This shift in focus has made it so that now many people change their throwie from one design to another, and the goal is no longer to have a recognizable throwie, but rather, a highly designed throwie that looks good. Because of this, it's seen as a negative quality by many if you have a throwie that you havent changed in year and this could not be further from the truth.
