“You Don't Know What Love Is”, Performed: Bob DeVos, Composed: Gene DePaul, Don Raye, Cd: Breaking the Ice, Release Date: June 8, 1999 Bob deVos is an American jazz guitarist whose playing style is similar to that of Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery. He is most noted for his work with organist Richard Holmes DeVos started in jazz as a student of Harry Leahy and Dennis Sandole. In 1970, when Sandole sent his leading students out to audition for the organist Trudy Pitts, deVos was chosen to step in for Pat Martino. Since 2005, Mr. DeVos has headed his own Bob DeVos Organ Trio (Dan Kostelnik on Hammond B3 organ and Steve Johns on drums). Mr. DeVos is currently on the music faculty at Lehigh University and teaches privately. The track " You Don't Know What Love Is" is included in his first solo cd "Breaking the Ice", 1999 (highly recommended). The organist Charles Earland, the drummer Vincent Ector and the conga man Master Henry Gibson contribute with their skills to the high quality of this album. "You Don't Know What Love Is" a popular song of the Great American Songbook, written by Don Raye (lyrics) and Gene de Paul (music) for the Abbott and Costello picture Keep 'Em Flying (1941), in which it was sung by Carol Bruce.
