For over a hundred years, the region was divided between Curitiba, Campina Grande do Sul, and Piraquara, until November 9, 1961, with Law No. 4,338/61, when the municipality was officially created. The city's name refers to the confluence of the Canguiri, Timbu, Bracajuvava, and Capitanduva rivers. Quatro Barras is one of the 29 municipalities that make up the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba.
