Instructions after joint replacement: Joint replacement instructions depend on the type of surgery, the patient's condition, what they saw, and the surgeon's assessment during the operation. We need to prevent post-operative injuries like slips. We need to maximize joint strength through physical therapy. You need to achieve the greatest possible range of motion for the joint. There are problems related to either excessive or insufficient movement. Your gait must be balanced to preserve the joint's lifespan. If the other joint is damaged, it's best to replace it as soon as possible. For example, don't splay your legs and keep your body straight. Don't let your legs be too far behind your body. Don't rotate your pelvis forward. Backwards Don't bend your hip more than 90 degrees to avoid dislocation. Open your hip to the side (this not only strengthens the muscles but also teaches you how to control the joint). Keep your kneecap facing the ceiling at all times. When standing, don't twist your body while keeping your hip in a fixed position. Caring for the joint wound: Don't change the dressing before a week unless the wound is wet. The dressings are usually waterproof, so you can shower. What to avoid after total hip replacement: Don't cross your legs for the first two months. Don't elevate your knee above the hip joint (like on a low chair). Don't lean forward when sitting. Don't pick things up from the floor, especially while sitting. Dangerous signs of infection after joint replacement: Persistent fever above 40°C (104°F). Shivers. Redness. Discharge. Dangerous signs of blood clots after joint replacement: Knife-like pain below the knee. Dry, red calf.
