Nashville Chattanooga & St Louis 576 on the Road to Restoration
66 years after being put on display in Nashville's Centennial Park, NC&StL 576 left for a new home on January 13, 2019. After three years of fundraising and nearly a week of preparation, "The Stripe" was headed down Charlotte Avenue at a walking pace aboard a self-propelled trailer. After turning north onto 12th Avenue, the engine was parked alongside the Nashville & Western's locomotive terminal, where over the next few days it would be lowered onto live rail for the first time since it entered the park. In just over a month she'll be towed by CSX across town to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum, where work will begin to return her to steam. Congratulations to the Nashville Steam Preservation Society for their accomplishment!
