Franz Schubert - Deutsche Messe, D. 872 (complete score)

Second version for four-voice mixed choir and organ with two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, three trombones, timpani and double-bass published in 1870. The German poems, based on liturgical texts of the catholic mass, were written by Johann Philipp Neumann (1774 - 1849), who commissioned the music to Schubert in 1826. The composer worked on the Gesänge zur Feier des heiligen Opfers der Messe (Hymns for the Celebration of the Holy Offering of Mass), the original title, between December 1826 and the first months of 1827. The cycle in fact was later given the name Deutsche Messe (German Mass) due to the use of the German language other than Latin for a set of Catholic liturgical music. Initially, for the texts not directly connected with the liturgy and poetically interpreted, the Archdiocese of Vienna didn't approve the work. However, successively the Deutsche Messe gained popularity, becoming very popular, particularly with the spread of the German-language mass, and was translated into other languages. . . . 00:07 I.
