在东方，在中国，在它的西部，人们传说着无数神奇的故事；在天山，在戈壁，在土鲁蕃的古道，留下无尽的人间沧桑……。鸵铃叮噹，由远而近，是来自波斯？还是长安？……人群中传来一阵凄婉苍凉的歌声,好象在诉说着什么。千百年来，这里走过无数的鸵队马群、男女老少，但这里似乎没留下什么，只剩下一条古老而冗长的古道。全曲共分为四个部分： 深沉而悠长的主题前奏；抒情而略带忧伤的第二部分；翩翩起舞的第三部分；第一部分的再现的第四部分。 In the East, in China, in its western regions, countless magical tales have been passed down among the people. The Tianshan Mountains, the Gobi Desert, and the ancient paths of Turpan bear witness to endless vicissitudes of human life... The tinkling of camel bells drifts closer from afar—do they come from Persia, or Chang'an? A plaintive, desolate song rises from the crowd, as if murmuring some untold story. For thousands of years, countless camel caravans, horse herds, men, women, elders and children have traversed this land, yet little seems to remain, save for one ancient, winding thoroughfare. The entire composition consists of four movements: a profound, drawn-out introductory theme; a lyrical second movement tinged with sorrow; a graceful, dance-like third movement; and a fourth movement that reprises the material of the first movement.
