30 Minutos de Sabedoria! I Mestres revelam os fundamentos da Capoeira I Museu da Capoeira

A roundtable discussion among Masters is always a moment of learning, and this meeting was no different. Led by Master Nininho, we delved into about 30 minutes of deep reflections on capoeira: starting with the formation of the percussion sections in each group, where the role of the berimbau gunga, médio, and viola was discussed, as well as the importance of the atabaque, pandeiro, and other instruments that sustain the musicality. The Masters reminded us that musicality is the soul of capoeira, carrying not only the rhythm of the game, but also African ancestry, religious syncretism, and the spiritual force that envelops each roda (circle). The so-called "truths of capoeira" were also addressed, questioning whether there is only one correct way to play, sing, or name the movements. Each Master shared their experience, revealing how oral tradition shapes the richness and diversity of our art. The conversation continued with topics such as the differences in the nomenclature of capoeira moves between groups, the preservation of traditions, the appreciation of oral tradition, and the need to consider capoeira in the modern world without losing the fundamentals that connect us to the old Masters. As was said in the roda (capoeira circle): "Capoeira is made of sounds, stories, and encounters," and it is up to us to preserve this legacy for future generations. Led by Mestre Nininho, we delved into more than 30 minutes of deep reflections about capoeira: starting with the formation of the batteries in each group, discussing the role of the gunga, Médio, and viola berimbaus, as well as the importance of the atabaque, pandeiro, and other instruments that sustain the musicality of the art. The Masters reminded us that musicality is the soul of capoeira, carrying not only the rhythm of the game but also African ancestry, religious syncretism, and the spiritual power present in every roda. They also addressed the so-called “truths of capoeira,” questioning whether there is only one right way to play, sing, or name the movements. Each Master brought his own experience, showing how oral tradition shapes the richness and diversity of our art. The dialogue also touched on differences in the names of movements between groups, the importance of preserving traditions, the value of oral history, and the challenge of thinking about capoeira in the modern world while keeping the fundamentals that connect us to the old Masters. As said in the roda: “Capoeira is made of sounds, stories, and encounters”, and it is our duty to preserve this legacy for future generations. Capoeira Museum, preserving history and culture.
