Happy Anniversary, Sesame Street

This tribute is brought to you by the letter S and the number 51. Back in the 1960's, an American psychologist named Lloyd Morrisett met with an American television producer named Joan Ganz Cooney and asked a game-changing question: What if TV be could used to educate children? With children being able to remember commercial jingles easily, the idea was so unique and interesting that it just might work. Together, Cooney and Morrisett managed to set up an organization called "The Children's Television Workshop" and put together a creative team to help bring their vision to life; including a young puppeteer named Jim Henson. Soon enough, the very first episode of their new show was released today in 1969, and what would follow afterwards would go down as the longest running program in children's television history. Happy 51st anniversary to the community of people, monsters, birds, grouches, bears, Honkers, penguins, vampires, and Snuffleupaguses that taught, entertained, and became a family to me and many generations of children before and after me.
