I am joined by Ande, my guide for the day, as we take a walk from the site of Greasley Castle, once the home of William the Conquerers illegitimate son, William De Peverel. Our journey takes us to a holy medieval well in Watnall, once said to have cured a dying child in the 1800s.. We dive into the history of the region including crusaders to Jerusalem, and abbots who refused Henry the VIII. Neither ended well for the Nottinghamshire men. Finally we take a look at the mysterious graves of Watnall Hall. The lavish 17th century hall was demolished in 1963 and replaced with a housing estate, but there are some clues remaining. Gateposts, gate houses, air raid shelters, but nothing quite like the graveyard plot of the halls owners, the Rolleston family which still sit alone in a field next to the estate.
