"The Famous Carter Sisters"

The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle were the most popular live show in America during the late 40's and early 50s. All 3 of them brought different but "great" talent to the show. Anita(dubbed The Appalachian Angel) played bass and sang with the voice of an Angel, Helen the eldest had a very pretty voice and played accordion and arranged most of the songs. June was the emcee and the "front person" for the band. She also sang train,and prison songs as well as funny songs.She brought a character to the show and provided comedy. They literally worked their way to being the "most popular traveling and on air band" in the United States by 1949. The WSM Grand Ole Opry called multiple times in 1950 to hire them and make them the highest paid act at the Opry. They were featured females on the Grand Ole Opry shows for years.
