Resurrecting the "Resurrection" scratches

Mista Sinista's scratches on Common's sophomore album #RESURRECTION are arguably the best cuts every recorded on an album. From start to finish, Sin puts on a studio scratcher's clinic in how to appropriately serve a Hip Hop song as a DJ. Case in point, the "Resurrection" single. “Either DJ Mista Sinister or No I.D. suggested ‘Nice & Smooth is your resurrection’ and that was so right because the way he was saying ‘resurrection.’ Then, Mista Sinista would create a rhythm with his scratching and eventually after, I laid the rhymes to fit the ‘resurrection’ scratches.” ~ Common "Joey did the scratches on that. Joey was a major creator when it comes to turntablism and scratching—he was insane. He was so precise with everything." ~ No I.D. If you're a true Hip Hop DJ, you're aware of the folklore behind these historic scratches. And so in my most recent practice session with Sin, I suggested we figure out a way to recreate the "Resurrection" scratches.
