"Our Time" - Michel Legrand (extremely rare)

R.I.P. Michel Legrand... Extremely rare version of the Theme from "Our Time" composed and conducted by Michel Legrand. It was released in 1974 by Warner Bros. only as a promotional 45 RPM single specifically for radio airplay to help promote a movie by the same name directed by Peter Hyams. The video includes scenes from the movie. The period coming-of-age drama starring young newcomers Parker Stevenson and Pamela Sue Martin was one of Hyams' earlier directorial works. He has since become known for his sci-fi and action thrillers, such as "The Presidio" and "End of Days." Three-time Oscar winner Legrand is best known for composing the theme song for the classic TV movie "Brian's Song" (otherwise known as "The Hands of Time"), and soundtracks to such motion pictures as "Pieces of Dreams" (1969), "Wuthering Heights" (1970) and "Summer of '42" (1971). But "Our Time" is so rare that most people can only hear the song if they've purchased a DVD of the movie. Typically, most such promotional records are soon discarded. This record was never released to the general public or included on any of Legrand's huge volume of albums. It was released in mono; no stereo version existed. I only recently obtained this one-of-a-kind record from a collector in New Paltz, NY after years of searching. It was in near-mint condition. Although written by legendary film composer Legrand, strangely enough this 45 RPM version of the song was not included on the original soundtrack. Instead, Legrand scored a separate soundtrack based on this composition. I previously posted a video of that particular soundtrack version at (you will note a starkly different tempo):    • Our Time - Michel Legrand
