#cps #dhs Kids Taken by DHS / CPS Took My Child! (Child Protective Services - State Custody)

CPS took my child! The state took my kids! What to do if CPS / CSD / DHS takes your children into custody. This information is not legal advice or is it a substitute for therapy. Just observations based on my experience with "the system." Check out the Family & Children's Counseling Services, Inc. page "Help! My Kids Have Been Taken by CPS!" at http://www.healplaylove.org/help-my-k... This article has information on the practical and emotional aspects of foster / kinship care. In spite of the many comments / assumptions on this video, I have never been a social worker nor have I ever worked for CPS / DHS/ DFCS. I have, however, worked in collaboration with social workers in my roles as a Therapeutic Foster Care therapist, as a behavioral skills Counselor and as a Supervised Visitaiton Monitor. I am currently Director and Clincial Supervisor for a therapy practice that focuses on keeping families together. I have more than two decades of experience (personal and professional) in witnessing the pain and attachment / relationship problems that develop from the trauma of losing a parent. I have no desire to promote more trauma and loss in our society. This video was made to help those who find themselves in this unfortunate situation. Now for the video... You'll get to visit your kids. It will probably be supervised visitation. You will probably get an attorney and your child will also get an attorney. You will probably have to attend a variety of classes, including parenting classes and drug / substance use classes (if that was a reason your kids were taken). You may have to submit to drug testing. You will have to prove that you have a stable income and place to live. You will have to provide space for each child- separate from children older or younger than each other. You will have to have a clean home with adequate food, toys, clothing. You will have people all up in your business for a while. The best thing to do is to cooperate with the people who are trying to help you get your family back together. No bad mouthing the judge, state, courts, social workers, etc. Make the most the opportunity and learn while these many resources are being offered to you. Take the time to work on you so that you don't get sucked into the system again. I wish you the very best, my friends. Be sure to learn what to do when cps takes your child and how to get your kids back from cps. When your kids are taken, you should be given a booklet that tells you about the process. You should be given the phone number to your social worker. Make sure you do what the Court is asking you to do. If you have questions, ask your social worker and your attorney. Make sure you show up to all of your visits (you are establishing what an awesome, responsible, consistent parent you can be!) Plan your visits... bring snacks and your children's favorite toys and games. Ask them about school and their favorite video game. Keep the talk in the "here and now." Don't do anything that could look like a guilt trip or a "feel sorry for me, the poor parent." Be upbeat, this is just a season. It's a chapter in your life, not the whole book.
